I recently had the pleasure of reading a book called 'Evening is the Whole Day' by Preeta Samarawsan- it was an early reading copy, the book it out later this year - but it was a superb story of an Indian family living in Malaysia (over several generations) - and I don't think I could recommend it more highly - especially if you enjoyed 'The God of Small Things' - it's written in a style that is quite similar, although still unique.
