Welcome to the Postcolonial Fiction Book Club!
Here we will read and discuss books written by postcolonial authors, most often set in post/colonial settings. The books chosen each month will range from the old to the new, the comfortable to the confronting, the sunny to the gritty - the common theme being that they will hopefully reveal to us something about ourselves, humanity, history, and our world.
To allow members to keep up with their reading in other clubs the limit I'll initially set for this club is one book per month. We can adjust that as necessary in the future once we all get a feel of how much we'd like to be reading from this particular genre.
To start things off, it would be great if new members leave a comment introducing themselves, their reading interests, a bit of their background, etc., so that we can all get to know eachother.
To start things off reading-wise, this month I've chosen the classic book 'Wide Sargasso Sea' by Jean Rhys.
The date to have this read by is: July 24, 2008.
For those who have read this book already, please feel free to leave general comments ahead of time. However, if you would like to include more specific remarks on the book, please make this clear at the beginning of your comment by typing "Warning: SPOILERS!"
Happy reading, and I look forward to meeting you all & hearing your thoughts over the coming months.
Cheers,
Ash
